The Lazlow Show update
Posted by lazlow | Filed under The Lazlow Show
Many people have been wondering what’s happening with the show. We’ve been a bit quiet about it due to some behind the scenes issues that I haven’t been able to discuss until now.
When we left K-Rock, XM welcomed us with open arms. There was no contract, there was a tremendous amount of respect from management, and we brought a lot of listeners to satellite judging by the amount of email we got. We were told we could do shows whenever we wanted. There were fans that subscribed to the online stream just so they could listen live from overseas.
XM was taken over by Sirius, and we were shocked at the difference in culture. At Rockstar I am blessed to be involved with some great people who believe that their creative people are the most important component to making your creative product. And the job of management and lawyers is to stand by and defend your product. End of story. It is a far cry from the radio industry these days. I LOVE radio, and it guts me to see what it’s turned into. When you ask lawyers if it’s ok to be funny, you’re doomed to failure.
The Lazlow Show will not be returning to satellite radio. Sirius walked through the door and cut our fee by 75%, demanded to own the name of the show, our entire back catalog of shows, all future shows, and refused to allow us to put the show on our website which we’ve been doing since day one. Plus they said we would no longer be able to sell box sets of the show.
I have a lot of intense feelings on the matter, but at the end of the day that’s the way they choose to do business and unfortunately we don’t work that way. There are some big supporters of our show, including Opie and Anthony as well as Rob Cross, who started the show at K-Rock in the first place. We wholeheartedly thank them for believing in us over the years.
The show will continue – online. Our next show is scheduled for Saturday February 6th at 6pm eastern. It will be streamed live online and also posted for download. See you then.

Thank you for a very clear and helpful post. I am definitely a violator of many of these rules. I often find myself conflicted when writing a blog post because I see myself writing more than people want to read, but I feel that I have to do the subject matter justice by thoroughly covering it. I feel that by following some of these rules I end up cutting out important aspects to the discussion. I guess you have to find a balance.

Lazlow,
Thanks for the detailed explanation of what happened. You guys have one of the best radio shows on planet earth. I want to suggest that you bypass all of the corporate nonsense and sell the shows directly to your listeners online. I cancelled my XM sub and started downloading Ron & Fez on audible and I’m thrilled by how great an experience this has been. I pay about $.40 for a 3.5 hour show. I don’t miss one minute of the show and never have to listen to commercials. Please take this route into consideration. You don’t need ads, and you don’t need a bunch or retarded suits telling what you can’t do. This is the future. Mark my words.
Thanks,
Mr. Happy!!!

Dude,
That utterly blows!! Despite being wracked by incessant worry now that I won’t EVER get to hear you, Reed and Wayne ever again wax lyrical about buttsechs, retards and shit, you did the right thing ditching those conceited bastards. While they’re at it, tell ‘em to kiss yo ass.
(Man, if they had seriously blocked you from selling me the box set before I’d bought it, I’d have bombed their offices with emu shit!)
I endorse Mr Happy’s suggestion, but, please, I beg you, do NOTHING that blocks we internacionalistas from listening or picking up the MP3 the week after. I’ve been listening for some time and it’ll piss me off no end to lose that.
As the say, keep up the good work, Lazlow. Or Frank. Or Bobo. Or whatever your name is.
Your friend and mine,
El Guapo.

I like the extensive information that you discuss on here. Keep up the superb work you do in maintaining this blog as edu domains are often a target for spam comments. Have you ever considered submitting your blog to hubpages ?
