State of the show

Back when the Lazlow Show started I was a freelance producer with plenty of time on my hands. These days working full time on video games means that many weekends I’m in studio or writing. Or on the road, out of the country. Some of the comments posted lately seem to think that we’re not doing shows because we’re assholes. That’s not the case at all. I LOVED doing the show when it was weekly. And just as much when it was monthly. It’s fantastic fun and a lot of laughs. It’s just hard to work on the fun free thing when you have loads of other work to do.

BUT. I pledge we will do some shows this year.

While the video element is interesting to me, i think it becomes distracting. And it’s a whole other level of preparation and technology to deal with(which as you can see we haven’t mastered), so we end up not focusing on the core elements of what made the show, well, the show. And the reason i love radio so much is because you can consume it while doing other things. And it makes those things enjoyable where they would be dull and boring otherwise.

so were looking at returning to our roots. Wayne Reed and I have discussed some dates that might work for a show, hopefully we can get it hammered out. I see Wayne a lot these days. He’s been hanging out in my garage smoking cigars and operating power tools. I come home and my house smells like farts and drugs. I love the guy.

When we have a schedule we’ll let you know. And please be nice on the comments. I know the Internet has taught people to be as mean as possible but it’s really not cool.

My toilet doesn’t flush anymore

I come home these days and my house smells like cigars, pop music and drugs. That’s because my best friend is doing construction here. Construction people LOVE THE DRUGS. It helps you cope with the concept that a power saw is a second away from making you a joke where you raise your hand and everyone laughs at how you are 9/10ths of a man.

My toilet laughs at me. Because my manly construction friends process phenominal amounts of processed foodstuffs that they pick up at drive-ins and then turn into toxic dirt and make swirly time in my toilet. Since Wayne started working here, when I flush, the water gets really close to the top of the bowl. And I pray. I pray and then it goes away. Or it just hovers at the top. And then I go on about my business, which must annoy God who has just stopped my toilet from overflowing. Again. Despite my pleading. I am inconsiderate to deities. I blame them for all kinds of shit. And, well, shit.

But my friend Wayne, for those of you that know him, he’s doing better. He’s got money to go to the doctors thanks to a bunch of kind souls out there. And he’s working on my bathroom. So maybe we’ll get the gang together and do a show again sometime soon. He told me a really disturbing story about making his grandmother shit that I have to share.

When there are police outside your house telling you to evacuate, the reasonable man leaves town. Long Beach got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Irene, and I sat in the woods in Massachusetts and played XBOX while people here were up all night wondering if they were going to die. In true fashion, Big Wayne refused to leave town, instead shooting video near the beach where he and I hang out.

Over the past few months there has been a lot of WTFing going on about why there haven’t been any Lazlow Shows. A lot has been going on behind the scenes – besides working many weekends or simply not being around, other issues are at play, one of which is deeply worrying.

1. Reed is getting married
2. Wayne went to the emergency room and is in bad shape.

I’m sure you are as shocked and worried as I am about Reed. You never know what that guy is going to do. Mancations, marriage, it’s all so surreal.

While I can’t get into too much detail about Wayne – he went to a doctor after MUCH delay(you see, here in America if you don’t have health insurance we say go screw) and was instantly rushed to the emergency room(which a is bankrupting event in this country, see comment above.) Some more tests have done over the last few weeks and it is possible some very expensive procedures are going to be needed.

So that’s why the show has been on hold. As you can see we’ve been dealing with some bigger issues than doing a podcast.

This last weekend we discussed possibly doing a Jerry Lewis style telethon with ringing phones and some musical numbers and shit to raise some dough for Wayne’s medical care. I told Wayne he has to sing a song at the end. I imagine it will be a live show with video and if we reach certain milestones Wayne has to remove an article of clothing. But that’s just my fantasy.

We’ll keep you posted.

Last saturday night i was on my second beer after my tenth(I always roll over to zero, like an odometer in a car) and this was printed under the label. It slightly freaked me out. Magic Hat has always been known to put weird saying under their caps, but this one especially made me uneasy. The next bottle cap said “Reed is Gay.”

Tonight we are getting together to do a show. And when I say show, i mean three guys get together and drink beer and talk shit. No guests. Maybe not even any phone calls. But most definitely it will be an audio only stream. My hair looks terrible. And besides. TV is for dorks

Reed has just sent a text saying he picked up a bug in Brazil(he got back Thursday night). He’s at the doctors right now. There’s a possibility he’ll be at home tonight watching the movie Philadelphia over and over and crying.

We’ve also been hit with a snowstorm, and Wayne isn’t returning my calls. He must have picked up a QP last night.

Will give a status report when i have it as to whether or not the show is on.

The Lazlow Show update

Many people have been wondering what’s happening with the show. We’ve been a bit quiet about it due to some behind the scenes issues that I haven’t been able to discuss until now.

When we left K-Rock, XM welcomed us with open arms. There was no contract, there was a tremendous amount of respect from management, and we brought a lot of listeners to satellite judging by the amount of email we got. We were told we could do shows whenever we wanted. There were fans that subscribed to the online stream just so they could listen live from overseas.

XM was taken over by Sirius, and we were shocked at the difference in culture. At Rockstar I am blessed to be involved with some great people who believe that their creative people are the most important component to making your creative product. And the job of management and lawyers is to stand by and defend your product. End of story. It is a far cry from the radio industry these days. I LOVE radio, and it guts me to see what it’s turned into. When you ask lawyers if it’s ok to be funny, you’re doomed to failure.

The Lazlow Show will not be returning to satellite radio. Sirius walked through the door and cut our fee by 75%, demanded to own the name of the show, our entire back catalog of shows, all future shows, and refused to allow us to put the show on our website which we’ve been doing since day one. Plus they said we would no longer be able to sell box sets of the show.

I have a lot of intense feelings on the matter, but at the end of the day that’s the way they choose to do business and unfortunately we don’t work that way. There are some big supporters of our show, including Opie and Anthony as well as Rob Cross, who started the show at K-Rock in the first place. We wholeheartedly thank them for believing in us over the years.

The show will continue – online. Our next show is scheduled for Saturday February 6th at 6pm eastern. It will be streamed live online and also posted for download. See you then.

So at the beginning of the summer, when things were mellow and slow and I spent all of my time playing video games and drinking beer, it sounded like a really good idea to do a show in August. Now that my weekends are spent in a studio editing/directing/producing, finding time to do a recreational hobby like a radio show is proving to be difficult.

So I doubt we’ll do a show in August. If we do it will be from Anthony’s house as that is much easier than going into the city. Plus then you get video too.

Work’s gotta come first – except for Wayne, who hasn’t even returned messages to myself or Reed. Being unemployed has somehow morphed into drinking in public during the day.

I would expect that we’ll be back to a monthly schedule this fall. Thanks for all the fan mail.

We weren’t able to do a show last weekend – the studio was under construction. But we are scheduled for July 11th.
Thanks for the preorders of the first official Lazlow Show Tshirt(see below). They are being printed as we speak and will ship in the next 2 weeks. Wayne is really excited, as he’s unemployed and enjoys the concept of money for his habit funneling in from around the globe.

On the next episode we’ll have an announcement about a SPECIAL show we’re planning.

Fans in Sweden, Australia, India, Hungary, Ireland, Germany, UK, Finland, New Zealand and elsewhere all checking in lately and sending nice notes of support. Shout outs to the women and men in Afghanistan and Iraq who are serving. Several have sent emails saying they listen to the show in their tanks, bunks and planes. One soldier said he dove for cover from a rocket attack in their camp and while he was crawling to safety amongst the explosions his mp3 player with the show was playing a Wayne’s romantic moment. He wondered if this was how he was going to go out, laughing at our ridiculous garbage.

It’s been a long while – but we’re back

I spoke with Reed for a while today. We should really tape our conversations because it’s like a radio show. He’s a funny dude. Speaking with Wayne last night and Reed today, we appear to be on track for the next show Saturday May 2 at 9pm eastern on XM202/Sirius 197. We’re considering waterboarding Reed with vodka appletinis to find out if he really likes men.

We’ll be at the new Opie and Anthony studios which are more intimate. Looks like we’re going to have to bring in a cooler for the beers. And sneak it past security.

We just found out that Opie and Anthony’s studios will be moved next week so our show April 11th has been canceled. Currently we are slated to do a show May 2nd, however if we can fit one in sooner we will.

We’ve been getting a lot of inquiries about when the next show is.

Dates have been scheduled through September. During one month this summer we plan on going hard core and doing a show every 2 weeks. However this may change based on Reed’s comfort zone with leaving his house, Wayne’s pursuit for work, and my travel schedule. we’ll do our best to pull off one a month, at least.

The next show is scheduled for Saturday April 11th.

Thanks to the military fans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan who have written in. It’s an honor to bring some entertainment to the American and British forces serving there. And the notes from service members who say they listen to the show while in tanks and on bases really make us smile. You guys sacrifice a lot. We appreciate it every day.
